Raiders vs Seahawks

Seattle is expected to be one of the league’s top teams once again, while the Raiders are still something of a question mark. After being considered one of the worst-run organizations in the league for a very long time, the Raiders have strung together a few consistent offseasons in recent years and have added some real talent.

The Raiders could be a team to watch this year, though Thursday’s game between the two teams likely won’t feature many starters, if any. The third week of the preseason is when teams typically play their starters the longest, and the fourth game is more to allow teams to figure out the final few roster spots before they have to cut down to the 53-man limit.

But there are some significant battles and players worth paying attention to on Thursday.

The biggest is Seattle’s rookie running back, C.J. Prosise. The rookie made his debut after missing the first two preseason games with a hamstring injury, but he saw little playing time in the third game. He will likely play for the majority of Thursday’s game and how he plays will likely determine whether the Seahawks are going to make him a big part of the offense this season.

Seattle wants to have multiple backs in the rotation, and Prosise was looking like he could be the third-down back, but he’ll need to show something against the Raiders on Thursday to get the full confidence of head coach Pete Carroll.

The last time the Raiders hosted the Seahawks in the preseason, rookie quarterback Derek Carr played and threw three touchdowns in the first half. Carr won’t be anywhere near the starting lineup on Thursday, however, and Matt McGloin is expected to make the start for the Silver and Black.

Running backs are also the thing to pay attention to for Oakland. Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, a pair of rookie running backs, looked great in the team’s third preseason game against the Tennessee Titans. Latavius Murray is the starter, but the Raiders would like to get as much help for Carr as possible, and if one or both of those backs shine again on Thursday, they could be in for a heavy workload this season.

Thursday’s game between the two is set for 10 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on the NFL Network, with a live stream available via NFL Game Pass.
